One of the Yukon’s iconic fishing lodges, Inconnu Lodge, will be expanding their product offerings this year with a new northern lights package as well as additional soft adventure options.
Located 300km (185 miles) by air from Whitehorse, near the Yukon/Northwest Territories border, Inconnu Lodge is a high end fishing and recreation resort situated on the edge of McEvoy Lake.
The lodge offers a luxury wilderness experience – accommodation is in upscale cabins, with meals and activities in the 6,500 square foot, all cedar main lodge.
Packages are either five or seven days and include all accommodation, gourmet meals prepared by the resident chef, access to gear, use of water craft, experienced guides, transport to and from Whitehorse, regular float plane fly-out trips and alpine helicopter hiking trips.
They offer a very personalized experience with a maximum of twelve guests at one time.
Unique Side Trips and Activities
Known for its outstanding fishing opportunities, with many rivers and lakes within a short float plane or helicopter ride from the lodge, guests will now also be able to enjoy a wider range of soft adventure options. This year will see additional side trips added that include alpine heli-hiking, river drift trips, canoeing and photography. And because of its wilderness location, there is always plenty of opportunity for wildlife spotting.
The lodge also offers a unique selection of add-on side trips into the Nahanni National Park and Reserve. This region was one of the first twelve UNESCO World Heritage Sites named by the United Nations in the 1970’s. Guests can travel by float plane over the glaciers of the Logan Mountains before landing on the spectacular Nahanni River where they can explore the magnificent Virginia Falls. These remote and beautiful Falls plunge 315 feet (96m) and are twice as high as Niagara Falls.
Another option is to take a helicopter adventure to the glaciers east of the lodge before enjoying lunch in the Cirque of the Unclimbables – a striking area of granite peaks in the Mackenzie Mountains Natural Region located inside the Nahanni National Park Reserve, and famed as one of the world’s greatest vertical rock climbing areas. The lodge will also be offering day trips from the lodge to Dawson City – home of the Klondike Gold Rush - to view the gold fields and local historic sites.
New Northern Lights Viewing Packages
In September of 2016, Inconnu will also offer a new fall northern lights viewing adventure.
The northern lights (aurora borealis) begin to appear in the Yukon’s skies in mid August, and autumn is the perfect time to come and see them.
During the day guests can enjoy fishing or soft adventure activities while at night they can relax at the lodge and watch as the lights dance across the sky.
This is a magical time of year in the Yukon when the landscape changes to a palette of reds, pinks and golds while birds and animals begin their annual migration which means excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing and photography. The five day northern lights packages begin on the 4th September with the last departure on 24th September. Each departure will accommodate a maximum of eighteen guests.
